we We were so excited when Jordan from Vegan Campout agreed to answer some of our questions. As the world's largest vegan festival we were humbled that a member of their extremely busy team would take the time to speak with us. Campout was launched in 2016 and since then has gone from strength strength. People flock from all over the world to be a part of vegan campout!
Jordan founded the festival as he was feeling disheartened by the lack of options for vegans at festivals, and since the attendance of 412 people in 2016 the attendance grew to 7100 people in 2019.
During the interview Jordan gave us further insight into what the festival entails. From talks, workshops, live music, yoga, family areas, there is something for everyone.
As we always do in our features, we talk about how the UK is fairing in terms of veganism and how the festivals host town of Nottingham compares to other cities within the UK. For those of you who are interested we also touch on activism and Jordan shares some valuable advice for people wanting to actively be involved in promoting a vegan lifestyle.
Unfortunately after we spoke to Jordan Vegan campout had to be cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions. However, we do know that next years line-up is looking fiercer than ever, so get on over to www.vegancampout.co.uk to grab your tickets!
So, Soy Oi had there first official outing on Sunday 25th October at Leamington Autumn market! What an amazing day we had! So many of you came to say hi and grab some grub and we received some wonderful feedback.
Not only on social media but you lovely lot came back to our van to tell us how much you enjoyed the food!!
We also had some beautiful family and friends come to support us for which we will be eternally grateful!
August saw another newsletter and another feature! This time with London based Charlette Hinds from the Instagram account @plant_based_pleasures
Early on in her vegan journey, we were grateful when Charlette agreed to talk to us so we could get her perspective on the increasing demand for plant-based foods.
We talked about what prompted her lifestyle change, from her research about diseases and watching the Netflix documentary 'Game changers'
We also discussed the sudden rise in veganism and the unexpected divide between vegans. As some people are offended by the 'fashion' vegans for using well known fast food chains. However, we agreed that surely any form of veganism is promoting positive change.
As London is one of our favourite cities we were excited to know what it is like for someone following a plant-based diet living in this wonderful city. Charlette was a great advocate for London and shared some of her favourite spots with us.
Inside the feature we also delved into Charlette's life, from her busy work to how she unwinds on a Sunday. Boy are we glad we asked as she had some invaluable advice for us!
It was an absolute pleasure speaking with Charlette as she was so open with her answers and extremely friendly. @Plant_based_pleasures is definitely an account you should be following!
Back in July we had the pleasure of speaking to Viviane from the Instagram account @whatveganslike
Viviane lives in Munich, Germany and inspires her 1000+ followers with her wonderful food pics.
After being vegetarian for a long time she decided to opt for a Vegan lifestyle in 2015 after she moved to Spain.
Viviane thought she would be met with difficulties both in Spain and Germany where meat is a massive part of people's diets. However she informed us that Munich is a wonderful place for Vegans and that Bavarian restaurants are very accommodating.
We discussed Viviane's love of fruit and her absolutely amazing nice cream recipes, if you haven't seen them check out her Instagram page for some food porn.
Viviane also had some invaluable advice for people who are looking to transition to a plant based diet as well as a key piece of advice for everyone, be kind to yourself!
To read Viviane's interview in full please open the attachment and take full advantage of her nice cream recipe :)
Back in June we had the pleasure of speaking to LA based Lauren Esposito. Lauren is a fitness instructor and actress who has been on her plant-based journey for almost four years!
We just love her inspirational Instagram posts, and so when we reached out to her we were thrilled when she agreed to be our June feature!
We released this newsletter at a time when the world was still (and still is) highly confused about the current pandemic, and we were grateful that we could share some of Lauren's great advice and tips with our subscribers.
Lauren offers a four week workout plan online as well as personal training courses. This feature contains information about both of these as well as advice about how to maintain a fitness plan throughout lockdown or at a time when access to gyms is limited.
It's not all fitness talk, we do also discuss what it's like being vegan and living in LA. We're sure by the end of the interview you'll be putting it at the top of your list of places to visit, we know we have!
What Lauren has built is truly inspirational and her Instagram posts are brilliant to follow for hints and tips about how to stay fit.
We would like to thank Lauren again for being kind enough to take the time to answer our questions and for being an amazing first feature for our newsletter! Follow Lauren on Instagram @Laurenesposito_fit

It's been a busy month here at Soy Oi!
First we had the pleasure of interviewing Lauren Esposito.
LA based Lauren is a fitness guru and vegan. After scrawling through her many inspirational Instagram posts we contacted her and asked, very cheekily, if she wouldn't mind being part of an exclusive interview for the eyes of our newsletter subscribers!
Lauren is a personal trainer and has online courses for any level of fitness. We are aware that at this uncertain and quite frankly crazy time in our worlds, people are looking for an outlet. A way to stay physically and mentally active and healthy.
That's why it was so important for us to work with someone who could provide insight and advice into both of these areas. As well as following a plant based diet, obviously!
Naively, I used to think that all products I brought were cruelty free. In this day and age why would anyone still test on animals? Therefore, I mindlessly brought products without researching or really paying attention.
Gradually I started looking into animal testing and the companies that condone it. What I found was astonishing, I was bewildered as to why companies would allow this unnecessary act to continue happening.
Before we begin, I would like to make it clear that I have not been endorsed by any products mentioned and that the opinions are that of myself. This has not been written to insult or point fingers at certain people, companies or beliefs but to help people like you and me be better informed. All of the information we have provided is believed to be true at the time of writing, and we do continually keep abreast of news and regularly check with companies to make sure they are still cruelty free.
With the news that we are in lockdown for a further three weeks, what better way to spend your nights than organising a quiz night! We have three weeks worth of quizzes with a multitude of questions for you and your family. Whether you want to do it at home with a few family members or the dog, or you can get a group together on house party or Zoom and play that way!
Why not each pledge to pay a small quiz entrance fee to a charity of your choice. Some people are opting to raise money for the NHS while others might want to support a local charity. Whichever you decide every little helps. Or if you don't fancy donating just have a damn good laugh while you're playing and by staying at home you're already helping massively.
The quizzes have been tried and tested on our own family and friends and we can guarantee you'll have a great time!
Hi lovely friends we hope you are staying home and staying safe!Following on from last week, as promised here is the week 2 quiz and answers. We did this quiz last night with family and friends and again it passed a couple of hours while seeing people we dearly miss! (Obviously seeing them over house party)
Week 2 includes a specialist Easter round which you can decide to include or exclude depending on when you decide to do the quiz!
As it was enjoyed so much we will be doing another one next week so watch this space for week 3...
If this is your first time to Soy Oi then please see below for week 1...
If you're looking for something to pass the time while staying safe in isolation, look no further. Why not get a group of family or friends on social media or using house party, skype or facetime. Allocate a designated quiz master and download our questions and answers for week one!
We tried and tested the quiz last night with our wonderful family and it passed a couple of hours, as well as testing their brains!
Let us know how you get on, and if you've enjoyed it there will be another one available next week!!
Give it a try, stay safe, stay home and if nothing else have a good laugh testing yourself!
