What is better than receiving a handmade gift? Giving a handmade gift!
After going into isolation and looking around for things to keep me busy, I realised I had run out of my usual face oil and face cream! What is a girl to do with such a predicament? As I have built up a small amount of essential oils mainly due to making my own yoga mat cleaner, I started googling how to make my own.
I came across a website called root and revel, www.rootandrevel.com
Here they had a whole detailed description of oils and which ones are good to use for different skin types. So, after an interesting read I set about making my own.
I would recommend using a dark glass bottle to store the oil in, ideally one with a pump spray or pipette. Or if you’ve already got an old face oil bottle use that.
Secondly, you must use a carrier oil to put your essential oils into, I used sweet almond oil. However, there are a wide range of other oils you can use such as, Jojoba oil, argan oil, olive oil, grapeseed oil, avocado oil and coconut oil. All of these have their positives, but I chose sweet almond because it is rich in vitamin E, helps your skin retain moisture and repairs dry skin. Also, the vitamin A can help fight acne.
The other oils are listed below:
Now you have chosen your carrier oil, you can begin to choose your essential oils. Root and revel recommended using 5-15 drops of essential oil to an ounce (30ml) of carrier oil.
For my essential oils I used Tea Tree, Lavender, Lemon and Benzoin.
Other oils you can use are:
So, get your oils ready and experiment, I would say no more than 4, maximum 5 oils in your batch. Or give them as wonderful presents to your mom, friends, aunties or grandmother. Or make a bottle for the man in your life if he enjoys trying new products to manscape with.
**Please use a small amount on skin before use to make sure you do not have a reaction. Maybe use 1-2 drops of your chosen oil on your skin at a time, that way you’ll know which oil caused the reaction if you do have one. Also do not use on small children, and if you are pregnant certain oils should be avoided so please check with a doctor first. **
